Holding the Line: A New Co-op Tower Defense Journey!

Welcome to our blog! In this first blog post, we introduce Cat Tower (working title), a cute yet strategic tower defence game coming to Android, iOS, and Steam, built in Unreal Engine 5. Learn what we’re making, why we started, and the core design pillars behind the game - from charming cartoon creatures and fast, accessible gameplay to deep build experimentation, increasing challenge, and thoughtful monetisation.

Hello, and welcome to our blog!

We’re incredibly excited to finally start sharing what we’ve been working on. This blog will be a place where we talk openly about our projects, our design decisions, the tools we build, and the challenges and wins we encounter along the way.

So, let’s start at the beginning.

What We’re Making

Our first project is Cat Tower (working title), a tower defence game coming to Android, iOS, and Steam, built in Unreal Engine 5.

In Cat Tower, players defend a charming kingdom of cartoon animals from waves of invading monsters. The game is designed to be cute, fun, and immediately approachable, while still offering meaningful depth and long-term challenge for players who want to master it.

You won’t just place towers and watch - you’ll control your own customisable player avatar, actively participating in battles and helping your animal allies protect their home.

Why We’re Making It

We love games that are easy to enjoy in short sessions, but still reward curiosity, experimentation, and skill. Cat Tower is our attempt to blend:

  • The approachability and charm of mobile-friendly games

  • The strategic depth and build experimentation of deeper PC titles

  • A lighthearted tone that makes you want to protect the world and its characters

At its heart, Cat Tower is about creating a game that feels friendly and inviting - but doesn’t talk down to the player.

Our Design Pillars

These pillars guide every decision we make on the project.

🐱 Cute & Fun

The world of Cat Tower is filled with expressive, lovable creatures that players can interact with and grow attached to. You’re not just defending abstract points - you’re helping a kingdom of characters that feel worth protecting.

Your own avatar is fully customisable and present during gameplay, reinforcing the feeling that you are part of the world, not just watching it from above.

🧠 Strategic Depth & Increasing Difficulty

While Cat Tower is easy to pick up, it’s built around stacking effects, modifiers, and synergies.

  • Towers can be enhanced in different ways

  • Your character can be modified to support different playstyles

  • Builds and combinations are meant to be discovered through experimentation

As levels progress, difficulty increases significantly. Success in later stages will depend on understanding systems, adapting builds, and experimenting - not just raw reaction speed.

💰 Monetisable (Done Thoughtfully)

Cat Tower includes a currency system that can be earned through gameplay or purchased with real money.

This currency is used to unlock:

  • New towers

  • Tower and character modifiers

  • New creatures and cosmetic skins

Our goal is to support the game’s ongoing development while ensuring it remains fun, fair, and rewarding to play.

🎮 Easy to Play, Hard to Master

We want Cat Tower to respect players’ time.

  • Fast, clear introductions

  • Short and simple tutorials

  • Early matches lasting no more than 5 minutes

  • Straightforward controls and mechanics

As the game progresses, complexity and difficulty ramp up dramatically. Mastery comes from understanding systems, refining builds, and making smart strategic decisions - not from memorising complicated controls.

Tools & Technology

We’re building Cat Tower in Unreal Engine 5, and alongside the game itself, we’re developing internal tools and systems to help us iterate faster, experiment with balance, and scale content more efficiently.

As development continues, we’ll share more about:

  • Our workflow

  • Custom tools we build

  • Lessons learned working with UE5 across mobile and PC

What’s Next

This blog is just the start. Going forward, we’ll be sharing:

  • Development updates

  • Design breakdowns

  • Behind-the-scenes looks at features and systems

  • Playtesting insights and community feedback

Thank you for taking the time to read our very first post. We’re excited to bring Cat Tower to life - and even more excited to share the journey with you.

Stay tuned. 🐾
